COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Polar Plunge for Special Olympics Wisconsin will be held on Feb. 19 at Thom Field using a new mobile plunge unit. Students and community members, including participants from local schools & Wausau Police Department, must raise $100 to join the event.  Wausau Daily Herald
  • Twenty local hikers joined Friends of Rib Mountain State Park for its First Day Hike on Jan. 1 at Rib Mountain, where board member Wes Ebert discussed winter trail ecology on a 1.5-mile walk. A Candlelight Snowshoe Hike is set for Jan. 10 at 6 p.m.  WSAW
  • Marathon County opened trails in Zones 1, 2, 3, 4 and 6 today at 8 a.m. while Zone 5 opens tomorrow at 8 a.m. Partial closures in Zone 3 (south of Intersection 452, west of Intersection 455 and east of Intersection 459) mean riders must be cautious with early-season conditions.  WAOW
