EDUCATION NEWS

  • Broadway and TV actor Eric Petersen came from Los Angeles to mentor local theater students at CWETA this week (he starred on Broadway shows and AMC sitcoms). The CWETA production of Shrek! The Musical will run Feb. 10-12.  WSAW
  • Ava Medo, a Birnamwood teen, earned national recognition from FFA for her innovative goat farming approach that grew her herd from two to about 750; she is on winter break before returning to UW-River Falls to study agricultural education and animal science.  WAOW

HEALTH NEWS

  • Health experts promote Dry January as locals enjoy a 31-day break from alcohol, which offers benefits like improved sleep and mood. Forward Beverage in downtown Wausau offers free sample tap room sessions Tuesday to Saturday, and co-owner Amy Yanzer encourages zebra striping for a balanced approach.  WSAW

SPORTS NEWS

  • Marathon senior True Thurs was named Athlete of the Week for his leadership in football, basketball and baseball this season. He began watching the Red Raiders as a child (even getting his jersey signed) and now serves as a two-year captain for a seventh ranked team.  WAOW
