- ➤ Habitat for Humanity of Wausau and Group Mission Trips will hold a Workcamp from July 13 to 18, 2026, where 385 volunteers repair homes for up to 60 elderly, disabled and low-income residents. Homeowners must apply by Feb. 15 to receive free repairs. Wausau Times
- ➤ The Parks and Recreation Department is hosting 'Toddler Time,' an indoor winter program for children 4 and under every Tuesday and Thursday from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Marathon Park's East Gate Hall. The program costs $5 and provides bikes, books, tunnels, a roller coaster and other play equipment. WSAW

- ➤ Park City Credit Union will open its sixth full-service branch at Union Station (2100 Stewart Ave. Suite 100) in late spring, offering residents drive-up service, a 24/7 ITM, and comprehensive financial products. - ➤ In Mosinee, Charlie’s Hardware repairs 30 to 40 snow blowers weekly — a service prompted by fuel degrading after 30 days. The store advises homeowners to add fuel stabilizers or start their machines monthly to avoid costly repairs when snow arrives. WSAW
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The local group Central Wisconsin Musicians performed a lively jazz night at The Bar in Rothschild, entertaining fans with tunes featuring saxophones+trumpets and more. The ensemble, part of UW Stevens Point's community band, practices weekly and now seeks a permanent spot to bring jazz to the area. WSAW

- ➤ At Tuesday's meeting, the council discussed challenges for Wausau's growing elderly population by reviewing a 2025 report from the North Central Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission. Officials considered flexible apartment designs (including a proposed dementia village) to meet future needs. WSAW
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Today, Marathon County Health Department urges residents to test their homes for radon (a cancer-causing gas) as two out of three local homes exceed safe levels, and affordable kits are available online. Wausau Daily Herald
- ➤ Since Christmas, Wisconsin hospitals have seen more than 1,500 flu cases and a surge in young children visiting emergency rooms; UW Health’s Dr. Jeff Pothof said the new Subclade K variant spreads fast and urged locals to wash hands + stay home if sick. WSAW
- ➤ Flu activity hit a 25-year high, and Marathon County Health Department is urging residents to get vaccinated today — free or low-cost shots are available for everyone over six months — while promoting handwashing and staying home when sick. WSAW
- ➤ Federal dietary guidelines released Jan. 13 now call for full-fat dairy and red-meat as key protein sources while urging less sugar and processed foods; Wisconsin dairy processors are set to benefit as they invest in growing capacity. Wausau Daily Herald

- ➤ The Wausau East Lumberjacks girls basketball team will begin their season on Friday, Jan. 16 at 6:00 p.m. against D.C. Everest at D.C.
