The Wisconsin DNR responded to a manure spill in Black Creek near Athens late Thursday after a failed manure transfer at DeerCreek Holsteins, and officials remain unsure of the spill amount as they work with Marathon County Department of Conservation, Planning and Zoning to monitor the situation.

On Jan. 16 at 8:05 p.m., an unknown amount of manure spilled from a livestock site on Creekview Road in Athens when a transfer system failed.

DNR staff and county conservation officials worked to monitor the spill as Deercreek Holsteins LLC began cleaning up.

The IRS announced that tax returns for 2026 will be accepted on Monday, Jan.
