- ➤ Dove donated $1.1M in personal care items to local Boys & Girls Clubs this morning to support community families. The items reached the clubs in Wausau, Wisconsin Rapids & Portage County. Wausau Daily Herald
- ➤ Jacquelyn Toksdorf from Collect & Gather in Plover is rallying local artists and collecting bras for women's shelters until Feb. 7. The project, which currently has 1,017 bras, will soon provide necessary support to women in distress. WSAW
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Sarah Hagenow, the 78th Alice in Dairyland, appeared on Sunrise 7 today to share her love for Wisconsin potatoes and introduce a loaded pizza baked potato recipe that uses local russet potatoes (a winter comfort staple). WSAW
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Northcentral Technical College in Wausau will host a regional SkillsUSA competition on Feb. 6. Over 230 students will compete in technical and leadership categories and a Future Ready Workforce Summit will gather local business leaders to discuss recruiting strategies as winners advance to state and national events. WAOW
- ➤ Leah Keller from Adams-Friendship Elementary will be honored this March at the NAEA Convention in Chicago as the 2026 National Elementary Art Educator of the Year along with two regional awards — a nod to her lifelong passion for art and her inspiring classroom work. WAOW
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Wausau’s Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee has moved the Bike Share expansion proposal to the Infrastructure and Facilities Committee to consider a sponsorship model, which will add three new stations and relocate one current station for both commuters and recreational users (private sponsors may help fund the program). HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Aspirus will host a free atrial fibrillation seminar Feb. 11 at 6:30 p.m. at the Hilton Garden Inn in Wausau. Dr. John Johnkoski will explain symptoms, risks and treatment options and registration is required. Wausau Daily Herald
- ➤ Health officials warn that frigid temperatures have doubled hypothermia risks, with 105 exposure deaths recorded last year — urging residents, especially seniors, to dress warmly and notify someone before venturing outdoors when wind chill falls between -20 and -30. WSAW
- ➤ The Wisconsin Tobacco Quit Line now offers eight weeks of free nicotine replacement supplies — up from two weeks — and counseling to help adults quit tobacco. The expanded service, funded by the state Department of Health Services, is available for a limited time. WSAW
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ On Monday the D.C. Everest girls beat Assumption 47-39, building a 13-point lead by halftime and winning by eight, which improved their record to 9-8; they will host Wausau West on Friday while Assumption drops to 11-6 with a game at Edgar. WSAW
