- ➤ Central Wisconsin Ice, a nonprofit, is forming an exploratory committee to seek community input on easing the ice rink shortage in Wausau as local hockey groups face limited facility hours. The group will examine a public and private partnership option for a new indoor rink. WSAW
- ➤ Local expert Dana Rady from the Wisconsin Potato and Vegetable Growers’ Association shared two recipes to mark February’s events — a Super Bowl party dish for Feb. 8 and Red Velvet Potato Crinkle Cookies for Valentine’s Day. WSAW

- ➤ Chick-fil-A will open Thursday on Rib Mountain Drive after a year and a half of work (village leaders plan extra spots like a Raising Cane’s and new retail buildings) to offer more dining and shopping choices for locals. WSAW

- ➤ Former WSAW/WZAW Vice President and General Manager Al Lancaster was inducted into the Wisconsin Silver Circle on Sunday by the Chicago/Midwest Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences & his 40-year career in broadcasting was honored for his significant contributions in Wisconsin. - ➤ Mosinee Library will host a pet portrait painting class for adults and teens on Feb. 12 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Participants must bring an 8x10 photo for reference as printing is available onsite for 50 cents. Wausau Daily Herald
- ➤ More than 230 students from 25 schools will compete in the SkillsUSA contest on Feb. 6 at the Center for Health Sciences at Northcentral Technical College (1000 W. Campus Drive) in Wausau, with competitions spanning automotive service and technical events. Wausau Daily Herald

- ➤ The Wausau Parks and Recreation Board chose Sawmill Adventure Park to open an ice cream shop at the vacant Riverlife Park concession stand pending City Council approval; the vendor plans to launch by May and add shifts at its Rothschild site + support local nonprofits through donation codes. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Aspirus Health hospitals were named 2025 Tree Campuses today by the Arbor Day Foundation for investing in tree care and green spaces that boost community wellness. All 18 facilities meet standards including maintaining a tree advisory committee and sponsoring community forestry projects. Wausau Daily Herald
- ➤ Doctors at Aspirus now recommend pulse field ablation to treat atrial fibrillation, a heart condition that causes shortness of breath, chest discomfort, and fatigue. Dr. Ronnie Ortiz said the treatment is safer with faster recovery times. WSAW
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ The Wausau West hockey team beat SPASH 4+2 at Marathon Park on Monday after scoring three goals in the third period to split the season series, with both teams holding a 7-1 record; the Warriors will face D.C. Everest on Thursday. WSAW
