- ➤ Weston native and DC Everest graduate Lt. Darren Sanchez will join an eight-aircraft military flyover during Super Bowl LX on Sunday, Feb. 8 at Levi’s Stadium (Santa Clara). WSAW
- ➤ The Marathon County Literacy Council building closed after a burst pipe flooded the facility and spilled 500 to 800 gallons of water; leaders plan to partially reopen on Feb. 9 as they assess damage to antique book collections and teaching materials. WSAW
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Students taught over 30 community members egg roll making and Hmong culture at Wausau West High School when junior Logan Xiong and senior Angie Yang led their FCCLA project. The event featured 12 kitchen stations that offered hands-on cooking and history lessons. WSAW
- ➤ The 125-year-old Wausau Club at 309 McClellan St. reopened as an event venue and art space on the second floor of the Wausau Museum of Contemporary Art after a $1.3 million renovation. Locals can now tour the historic site for upcoming events. Wausau Daily Herald
- ➤ Crews erected the concrete shell for the John and Carolyn Sonnentag Archive Center in downtown Wausau, marking a major milestone for the Marathon County Historical Society archive. Brick, stone, windows and a garden will be added later, with substantial completion planned for mid-September (weather permitting). WSAW

- ➤ On Sunday, Joshua Jaeger was walking his dogs at Sylvan Hill Park when he found a dumpster overflowing with trash including visible adult magazines, prompting park officials to note that illegal dumping remains a recurring issue near Horace Mann Middle School. WSAW
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Wausau Fire Chief Jeremy Kopp will testify today as the State Assembly Committee on Health, Aging and Long-Term Care discusses two bills that propose grants for community paramedics and tuition reimbursement for training (aimed at reducing unnecessary 9-1-1 calls). WSAW
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ The D.C. Everest School District held a two-hour suicide prevention training on Tuesday at its administrative building in Weston to teach community members QPR techniques—an approach to asking, persuading, and referring those at risk. Attendees left with resources and renewed confidence to support one another. WSAW
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ On Tuesday, high school teams in Mosinee and D.C. Everest competed in basketball, wrestling and hockey. In Mosinee, the boys lost 73-54 to Seymour in basketball, won 60-12 against Tomahawk in wrestling and secured an 8-1 victory over Waupaca while D.C. Everest hockey defeated Altoona 6-0. WSAW
