ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Multiple crews responded to a house fire on Callon Avenue in Weston on Tuesday, Feb. 3 after a chimney accident near Mountain Bay Elementary; fire crews contained most damage to the second level, though one of three cats is missing and the homeowner’s daughter launched a GoFundMe to raise $9,000 for rebuilding. - ➤ The Chocolate Shop is preparing for Valentine’s Day by dipping hundreds of chocolate-covered strawberries on Feb. 13 and 14 + customers are urged to pre-order to secure their preferred decorations. WSAW
- ➤ On Thursday, the new Chick-Fil-A opened in Rib Mountain with heavy drive-thru and dining room traffic. Village officials coordinated with state and county transportation to keep Rib Mountain Drive safe. WAOW

- ➤ CWETA opened Shrek! the Musical on Thursday in Wausau, and students from several local schools will perform eight shows through Feb. 15. The production celebrates a tradition of collaboration that has enriched the regional theater scene since 1993. WAOW

- ➤ Don Sleeter, a 100-year-old WWII veteran, visited Auburndale Elementary School today for its 100th day celebration and shared his war stories and advice with students. The children sang Happy Birthday to him and counted 100 Fruit Loops to make necklaces. WSAW
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ State officials found nearly 2,000 child labor law violations at Burger King franchises operated by Cave Enterprises, which was ordered to pay $237,000 in back wages to teen workers today & may face an $828,000 penalty to avoid further litigation. Wausau Daily Herald
- ➤ Wisconsin seniors filing state taxes this year can subtract up to $24,000 of retirement income, with joint filers eligible for up to $48,000 if both are 67+. The change, part of the state budget's tax cut plan, is expected to help retain retirees within the state. Wausau Daily Herald
- ➤ A Kronenwetter family testified at the state Capitol on Thursday in support of new social media bills that would require app stores to verify user ages and secure parental consent (following their son's sextortion death last year). Lawmakers are expected to continue discussions on these measures. WSAW

- ➤ Thursday night, Marathon boys won 58 to 54 over Wausau East to reach a 16 to 1 record, SPASH girls won 82 to 17 at Wausau West to stay perfect, and Assumption girls beat Newman 60 to 51 before Friday matchups. WSAW
- ➤ Stevens Point native Roisin Willis left Stanford early to go pro and today made history at the Terrier Classic in Boston by recording the fastest 800-meter indoor finish by an American-born woman (a record-breaking feat). She plans to return after her spring semester to pursue Olympic dreams. WSAW
