- ➤ Volunteers in Merrill have launched the Love the Littles Diaper Drive, asking residents to drop off diapers and wipes at 12 locations, including Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, through Feb. 23 * donations support the community’s diaper closet for families in need. WSAW
- ➤ Central Wisconsin Ice is working with the City to study potential sites for year-round ice rinks — a move aimed at meeting growing demand from youth, high school teams, and adult leagues. Community members are already offering input to shape the plan. WAOW
- ➤ Seven events are on tap in Wisconsin this weekend from Friday to Sunday, featuring 'Mrs. Doubtfire' at the Grand Theater in Wausau, a Stevens Point card show, Cyclones dog races at Marathon Park, plus a family fest at Granite Peak and shows in Appleton, Fond du Lac and Oshkosh. WSAW
- ➤ Boys & Girls Club of the Northwoods received a $1M grant to build a new facility in Antigo that will replace its current Main Club and Teen Center and serve 160 school-year and 350 summer members. The organization will seek local support as planning progresses. WSAW

- ➤ On January 2, 2026, Northcentral Technical College in Wausau held a SkillsUSA event where 300 students and instructors competed in automotive, photography, medical, math and welding contests. The event was one of five leading to state championships in Madison this April (organizers hope to address skilled trades shortage). WAOW
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Portage County Highway Department urges drivers to keep 200 feet behind snowplows after three crashed this winter + officials stress slowing down and moving over to help avoid more incidents. WSAW
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Health experts recommend the MMR vaccine (which protects against measles, mumps, and rubella) after two measles cases were reported in nearby counties, urging residents to contact their providers about available vaccination options. WSAW
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Friday's conference games saw D.C. Everest beat Marshfield 82-77 to tie for first in the Valley at 5-1, Columbus Catholic win 81-48 to lead the Cloverbelt East at 10-1, and Mosinee secure a 78-43 win to stay undefeated in the GNC; Everest faces Medford today. WSAW
- ➤ Marathon boys basketball coach Adam Jacobson reached his 300th career win on Friday night at Phillips (the team won 98-53) and now holds a 17-1 record this season. WSAW
