- ➤ Mayor Doug Diny proclaimed Wednesday as 211 Day in Wausau to boost awareness for United Way’s 211 program that offers free assistance with rent, utilities, food and shelter — the program handled over 4,000 calls and provided 9,000 referrals last year. WSAW
- ➤ Rep. Tom Tiffany's bill to designate the Apostle Islands as Wisconsin's first national park advanced out of committee on Wednesday, Feb. 11 (with a 20-17 vote). The islands will maintain their boundaries while Sand Island remains a preserve for hunting, under National Park Service management. WAOW

- ➤ Angie Horkan (Wisconsin Beef Council) has shared two heart-healthy lean beef recipes using fresh fruit, vegetables and whole grains. The recipes are certified by the American Heart Association and offer a balanced way to enjoy beef at home. WSAW
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ U.S. speedskater Jordan Stolz from Wisconsin won the men's 1,000m on Wednesday at the Milan Cortina Games in an Olympic-record time of 1:06.28, becoming the first American medalist in the event since 2010 + he now eyes more gold as the Games progress. WAOW
- ➤ Weston native Matt Thums will lead the U.S. Paralympic curling team on Mar. 6 in Milano Cortina. He, one of two returning athletes, is proud to represent the Wausau Curling Club as local fans gather to support the team. WSAW
