- ➤ A fundraiser in Weston will take place Saturday, Feb. 28 at the Greenheck Turner Community Center to raise funds for Kennedy Park lights, a Bradyn Bohn scholarship, and youth sextortion education. The free event features glow in the dark wiffle ball and homerun derby—attendees should wear neon and reflective clothing. WSAW
- ➤ Two local students raised $11,100 to purchase SafeAwake bed shaker devices that alert deaf and hard-of-hearing students during a fire alarm and distributed 26 devices on Feb. 17 at Riverview Elementary School as part of their Girl Scout Silver Award project. Wausau Daily Herald

- ➤ Wausau West High School is unveiling building upgrades funded by the April 2022 Referendum as community members tour a secure main entrance, updated auditorium, remodeled kitchen, improved school store and state-of-the-art fitness facility. Principal Curt Richardt said students responded with excitement (noting the high ceilings). WAOW

- ➤ With National Invasive Species Awareness Week underway, the Wisconsin DNR warns locals that invasive insects, plants, and fungi are harming native ecosystems, waterways, and forests and threatening the state’s forestry industry; residents are urged to clean boot soles (or pets) after outdoor activities to help curb their spread. - ➤ Crystal Finishing Systems Inc. will pay $350,000 to settle alleged air pollution violations at its Schofield and Mosinee facilities, with state officials saying the deal addresses failures in controlling hazardous emissions — a step to enforce environmental laws. Wausau Daily Herald

- ➤ Fred Clark, candidate for Congress, will host a town hall meeting Wednesday, March 4 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at North Central Technical College (Community Collaboration Center, Room E101 at 1000 W. Campus Drive) to discuss concerns on health care, the economy, Social Security, Medicare, and public education. WSAW

- ➤ Marathon County Health Department offers a Nurse-Family Partnership program that provides new mothers nurse visits and resources through their baby's second birthday + new state Medicaid expansion ensures longer-term care to reduce preventable infant and maternal risks. WSAW

- ➤ Marathon County's median home listing price in January was $359,950, down 1.3% from last month but up 19.5% from January last year. Homes averaged 1,842 sqft listed at $168 per sqft + stayed on market for a median of 58 days. Wausau Daily Herald
