- ➤ Teammates and coaches are hosting Glow Games, a glow-in-the-dark wiffle ball fundraiser honoring Bradyn Bohn, on Saturday, Feb. 28 from 4 p.m. to midnight at Greenheck Turner Fieldhouse (the event will raise funds for a scholarship, lights restoration at Kennedy Park, and sextortion education). - ➤ A local literacy organization that has served the community for 20+ years saw a pipe burst flood its floors and erase its computer lab earlier this month; it seeks volunteers and donations for repairs and welcomes help during office hours (9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mon to Fri). WAOW
- ➤ Local dairy farmer Gary Kohn from Medford is featured as 'Farm MacGyver' on a Dairy Farmers of Wisconsin billboard along State 29 near Wausau, part of the Born to Dairy campaign that will launch trading cards showcasing his resourcefulness (using duct tape to fix equipment). Wausau Daily Herald
- ➤ The American Legion in Wausau is accepting applications for its expanded Patriot Avenue of Honor program that now honors veterans and protective services personnel with discounted $395 banners available through March. Local agencies have been contacted and space is offered on Schofield Ave in Weston and on Grand Ave. WSAW
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Central and northern Wisconsin dairy makers will compete at the 2026 World Championship Cheese Contest at the Monona Terrace Community + Convention Center in Madison from March 3-5, with judging rounds open on March 3-4 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and the winner announced via livestream on March 5. ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Wisconsin Public Service said that energy bills are up because a colder-than-normal winter and higher natural gas costs are driving increased use in Wausau; homeowners are urged to lower thermostats and secure windows (a cost-saving tip) to manage rising costs while the utility reported an 18% increase in gas prices. WSAW
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ WisDOT shared findings from a UW-Madison-led study (tested in two counties) showing that salt brine performs like granular salt for highway safety while using (40-72% less) material during winter storms on state highways. WSAW
- ➤ Gov Tony Evers and the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development announced Tuesday that NTC will receive a $30,000 grant to offer Class A CDL training for 30 people at its training center in Merrill to help meet local workforce needs. WSAW
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Marshfield Clinic will open a new hospital in Wisconsin Rapids this weekend to offer emergency, urgent care, and inpatient services – easing travel for patients from nearby towns. The facility expands access with on-site labs and imaging. WAOW
