COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Comedian Tim Cavanagh will perform at the Jefferson Street Inn on March 13 at 7 p.m. in Wausau for a comedy night that includes auctions, a wine pull, and a cash bar to benefit the Wausau School Foundation (tickets are $40 or $350 for a table).  Wausau Daily Herald

CULTURE NEWS

  • A planetary parade featuring six planets will light up local skies Saturday, Feb. 28, with Mercury, Venus, Jupiter and Saturn visible to the naked eye (best viewed an hour after sunset). Clouds may hamper the view.  WSAW

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Robert Brinkmann — a UW-Oshkosh and UW-Milwaukee graduate and former Dean at Northern Illinois University — was named Feb. 25 as the new chancellor at UW-Stevens Point and will start July 1, succeeding Thomas Gibson.  Wausau Daily Herald
  • Hundreds of students from four school districts gathered at the Grand Theater today for a Holocaust education event by the Nathan and Esther Pelz Holocaust Education Resource Center (HERC), where speakers shared personal stories to deepen understanding and empathy.  WAOW
  • Mid-State Technical College is offering mid-term spring classes from March 2 through May 14, available online, hybrid and in-person. Students can receive enrollment support and financial planning help as they plan for new career opportunities.  Wausau Daily Herald

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Wausau Fire Department is hosting free listening sessions to explain the April 7 public safety referendum as federal grant funding ends for 12 emergency roles; sessions run today at Station 2 (3017 Seymour Lane) and in early March and early April at local campuses.  WSAW

SPORTS NEWS

  • Pointer Men's Basketball earned a #2 seed in the WIAC Tournament and will host #3 UW-La Crosse today at 7 p.m. at Quandt Fieldhouse; it is their first home semifinal since 2018 and coach Dernbach expects a strong push toward a championship.  WAOW
