- ➤ Auburndale students in their forestry class are tapping 400 trees (180 with a vacuum system and 220 with gravity) to learn the maple syrup-making process. The collected sap will be taken to a nearby producer for boiling and bottling as part of a hands-on lesson. WSAW

- ➤ The water in Rib Mountain turned nearly black today after accidental backwashing at the new treatment plant stirred up iron in the tanks. Officials (via website and social media) are flushing affected areas to bring in cleaner water and advise residents to exercise caution. WSAW

- ➤ Mortgage rates have fallen to exactly 6% — the second-lowest level since 2022 — according to Freddie Mac, and experts say each 1% drop adds roughly 10% in buying power, urging buyers to act as conditions shift. WSAW

- ➤ On Thursday, four local girls basketball teams advanced to the sectional finals. SPASH beat De Pere 67-49, Mosinee rallied past Wittenberg-Birnamwood 58-53, Neillsville outpaced Regis 40-23 and Pacelli outmatched Almond-Bancroft 74-51, with each team one win from state on Saturday. WSAW
