COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Marathon County Public Library in Wausau will host its Gather Your Party tabletop gaming social hour on March 16 from 6-7 p.m. at its headquarters (300 N. First St.) to connect adult roleplaying game fans, including beginners and experienced players, at a free event.  Wausau Daily Herald
  • City officials declared March 31 as Sarah Ruffi Day at City Hall to honor community advocate Sarah Ruffi, known for her long-standing support while battling a brain tumor (a struggle that unites neighbors). Family members encourage the community to celebrate by doing something kind on her day.  WAOW

BUSINESS NEWS

  • WSAW announced a new news app that delivers streaming live content — on-demand videos and custom news alerts, designed with viewers in mind. The free app is available now for download.  WSAW

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Auburndale students in their forestry class are tapping 400 trees (180 with a vacuum system and 220 with gravity) to learn the maple syrup-making process. The collected sap will be taken to a nearby producer for boiling and bottling as part of a hands-on lesson.  WSAW

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The water in Rib Mountain turned nearly black today after accidental backwashing at the new treatment plant stirred up iron in the tanks. Officials (via website and social media) are flushing affected areas to bring in cleaner water and advise residents to exercise caution.  WSAW

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Mortgage rates have fallen to exactly 6% — the second-lowest level since 2022 — according to Freddie Mac, and experts say each 1% drop adds roughly 10% in buying power, urging buyers to act as conditions shift.  WSAW

SPORTS NEWS

  • On Thursday, four local girls basketball teams advanced to the sectional finals. SPASH beat De Pere 67-49, Mosinee rallied past Wittenberg-Birnamwood 58-53, Neillsville outpaced Regis 40-23 and Pacelli outmatched Almond-Bancroft 74-51, with each team one win from state on Saturday.  WSAW
  • Northland Pines beat Somerset Spartans 3-2 & advance to the state championship game tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. where they will play Amery, with goalie Evrett Leslie making 33 saves to secure the win.  WSAW
