CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Friends of Wausau Historic Landmarks held its weekly Fish Fry and History event Friday at Denmar Tavern (built in 1936) where locals shared the venue’s past over a meal. The group will announce next week’s location on Facebook. WSAW
- ➤ Evercon returns to Central Wisconsin for its 26th year with an expected record turnout beyond last year's 2,000 attendees; fans can enjoy cosplay competitions, gaming zones, and vendor sales as the event opens tomorrow at 10 a.m., with badges available online + in person. WAOW
- ➤ The Wisconsin Valley Fair announced its grandstand entertainment (Aug. 4–9) featuring Chris Janson, Shenandoah, Skillet, PRCA Rodeo, and Dirt Dash Demo Derby; tickets went on sale at 8:00 a.m. Friday, March 6 for the upcoming fair. WSAW
- ➤ Six young women were introduced Friday in Weston as finalists to become the next Alice in Dairyland ambassador, marking the first finals hosted in Marathon County since 1985. Candidates will join industry tours and interviews in mid-May before the final showcase on May 16. WSAW

- ➤ The DC Everest band is flying to Ireland to play in St. Patrick's parades, leaving Friday, March 13 at 11 a.m. from their school + the group will visit Dublin, Cork City and Galway while celebrating longtime band teacher Joseph Finnegan’s final year. WAOW
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ WVIC is ending its reservoir drawdown today to capture water ahead of spring and reduce flooding risks. Peter Hansen said the company monitors levels in real time and coordinates emergency action with Marathon+Vilas+Oneida+Lincoln+Portage+Wood counties. WSAW
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Granite Peak in Wausau will join the Ikon Pass group for the 2026-27 season, giving pass holders access to local skiing along with partners at Lutsen Mountains and Snowriver Resort. The Ikon Pass goes on sale March 12 and offers options with five to seven days at each resort. WAOW
- ➤ The SPASH Panthers won 4-0 in Friday's state semifinal with one goal in the second period and three in the third as their keeper made 30 saves. They advance to the D1 state title game today at 7:00 p.m. WSAW
- ➤ High school gymnasts from Marshfield, Rhinelander and SPASH competed Friday at the state gymnastics team event in Wisconsin Rapids — Marshfield placed third in Division 2 with 137.25 points, Rhinelander finished 10th, and SPASH ended fifth in Division 1. The individual competition will continue Saturday. WSAW
- ➤ Boys’ basketball saw D.C. Everest beat Wisconsin Rapids 86-62 on Friday and will host Neenah in the regional finals today, while Marathon defeated Colby 80-42 and will host Spencer. WSAW
