COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Girl Scout Troop 7232 began selling cookies in early March and is learning teamwork and responsibility while meeting local community members—the troop will set up a booth at Pick 'N Save in Schofield on March 21 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.  WSAW

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Garden Path Greenhouse in Wausau has been preparing for spring planting since late February—its 11 greenhouses are maintained at 60 to 75 degrees to reduce energy costs, and owner Fabricio Da Mota expects to welcome visitors on April 25th while remaining cautious of unexpected snow and humidity. This effort aims to ensure the plants, many of which are rooted overseas, thrive under optimal conditions.  WSAW

EDUCATION NEWS

  • D.C. Everest high school band members are planning to travel to Ireland next year to march in the Cork City Saint Patrick's Day parade and held a fundraiser this past weekend to kick off their efforts—teacher Joe Finnegan said the trip will cost about $4,000 per person and noted additional fundraisers are planned.  WAOW

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Miss Wausau Area 2025 Avery Manthe stopped by 9 News to discuss her voting initiative ahead of the April 1 election—she aims to boost college voter turnout by stressing each vote's value—while providing non-partisan resources for learning about the ballot.  WAOW
  • Residents are advised to update their driver’s licenses to the Real ID needed for air travel and access to federal facilities by May 7. The DMV said that updating during a renewal costs the same while a replacement fee applies after May 7 — customers must provide extra documents to prove their identity and address.  WSAW

SPORTS NEWS

  • Michigan beat Wisconsin 59—53 in the Big Ten Tournament championship game when an 11—2 run in the final minutes sealed the win and earned Michigan its first title since 2018 in coach Dusty May’s first season.  WSAW
  • After losing the Big Ten title game, Wisconsin got a #3 seed and will play Montana in Denver on Thursday — Marquette got a #7 seed and will face New Mexico in Cleveland on Friday.  WSAW
  • Wisconsin earned a No. 3 seed in the East Region and will face No. 14 Montana in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Thursday in Denver—if the Badgers win, they will advance to face either No. 6 BYU or No. 11 VCU on Saturday.  WAOW
