COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ The Red Cross will offer free smoke alarm installations and fire safety education in Wausau on March 24 from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. (This Sound the Alarm event aims to help families prepare for home emergencies). Wausau Daily Herald
- ➤ Olson from Olson’s Tire and Auto advises local drivers to check tire traction and air pressure as ice and snow continue on roads. He warns that worn sipes reduce grip and suggests having tires inspected during routine oil changes — a complimentary service at many shops. WSAW
- ➤ After record snowfall blocked thousands from leaving their homes, Ryder Ress of Ress Outdoor Services provided free snow removal for over 50 homes in Mosinee, urging residents to donate to local charities. His quick response (aided by strong community partnerships) saved neighbors from hours of shoveling. WAOW
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Four candidates are running for two seats on the D.C. Everest School Board in the April 7 election. Incumbent Yee Leng Xiong faces challengers Bill Conway, Jennifer Douck, and Daron Juneau who each bring strong experience in budgeting and student services to support local education. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ City crews are removing snow banks across town in a process that will take about three weeks as the night shift starts at 10 p.m. Wednesday. Warmer temperatures will help speed up cleanup while officials ask residents to avoid parking near high snowbanks. WSAW
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ The Grand Theater offered a free event yesterday at 5:15 p.m. featuring a resource fair, documentary screening and panel discussion on social media safety for youth and families. A second free event on safe driving will take place Monday, Apr. 13 at 6 p.m. and is open to the public. WSAW
- ➤ Gov. Tony Evers signed a law at Children’s Wisconsin Hospital that extends Medicaid postpartum coverage from 60 days to one year for low-income mothers + babies statewide; coverage will start July 1 after CMS review. WSAW
