- ➤ Rueben Kolpack, a local World War II veteran, celebrated his 104th birthday with family and VFW members who honored his service in the 2nd Armored Division. His family collected over 13,000 birthday cards—well above the 104 planned—and Rueben credited his long life to faith, a 76-year marriage and steadfast family support. WAOW
- ➤ Camp American Legion in Lake Tomahawk will turn one hundred this year and will hold a public celebration on June 14th that re-creates its opening event with a blessing by the Lac du Flambeau tribe — camp director Jim Klements said many of the 65 veterans who use the camp each week are expected to attend — marking an important milestone. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Justin Wojtalewicz (42) of Amherst was arrested and charged with six felonies including attempted first-degree intentional homicide after he allegedly shot a man in the leg following a fight triggered by a hug that caused him pain, and the victim was airlifted to a hospital with life-threatening injuries while Wojtalewicz is scheduled to appear in court on April 28. - ➤ A 48-year-old Merrill man, identified as John Stevenson, was found dead in the Township of Corning Tuesday night after a missing person and welfare check—authorities arrested 25-year-old Austin Stevenson, who is set to appear in court at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday facing charges of 1st degree intentional homicide as the investigation continues.
