COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ The Friends of the Marathon County Public Library is hosting a pop-up bag sale on Saturday, March 28 from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at its 300 N. First St. location where participants can fill a paper bag with books, DVDs, CDs and audiobooks for $6 to support library programs. Wausau Daily Herald
- ➤ The Central Wisconsin Airport and Wausau Chamber of Commerce are collecting cash donations to buy gift cards for TSA agents who have worked without pay over a month after a partial shutdown. Funds will be used to purchase $10 and $20 gift cards to help support the agents at the airport. WSAW
- ➤ Wausau’s Night Market was named best downtown special event at the 35th annual Wisconsin Main Street Awards held at the Grand Theater. The market (which features local vendors on Third Street during the summer) will expand this year, according to director Rylie Hutchinson. WSAW
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Former Wausau West standout Amillion Buggs, a two-time first-team player + current West Alabama junior, appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live on Wednesday to discuss his unique name after his team's season ended with a loss to Alabama-Huntsville. WAOW
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul challenged the EPA on March 19 to repeal a 2009 rule that deemed six greenhouse gases harmful to public health – a decision that ended key emission controls for vehicles, power plants and oil and gas facilities. The suit was filed with 23 other states and local governments. Wausau Daily Herald
- ➤ Marathon County named Meagan Barnett as its new Public Health Coordinator for Homelessness Response (effective March 16). She will boost the county’s homelessness response by building partnerships and improving information sharing as part of a new task force effort. WAOW
- ➤ Gov. Tony Evers signed a bill on Wednesday to extend postpartum Medicaid coverage after bipartisan work by the 14-member Builders Movement (a group active since Dec. 2023). The law will help more mothers receive better care across the state. WAOW
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Gov. Tony Evers signed Gail’s Law to require insurance to cover extra breast screenings for women at higher risk in Wisconsin. The law, honoring Gail Zeamer, will help catch breast cancer early by reducing cost barriers for the added tests. WAOW
- ➤ The Community Blood Center issued a Code Red alert when a blizzard forced a two-day closure that left the center with only a one- to two-day blood supply. A blood drive is scheduled for Saturday, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Wausau Donor Center (Forest Street) for eligible donors. WSAW
