COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Wausau residents can sign up for free smoke alarm installations from the American Red Cross on Tuesday, Mar. 24 from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in select neighborhoods + gain fire safety education to help protect their families.  WSAW
  • Friday night the Wausau Curling Club hosted a homecoming event for local Paralympian Matt Thums who skipped Team USA in his second Paralympics. Thums, who lives in Weston, said he felt humbled by the club’s warm support & plans to take a year off competitive curling.  WAOW

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The state Senate passed a bipartisan plan releasing $133 million to combat PFAS contamination, and Governor Evers is expected to sign it soon. The legislation funds well replacements, community grants and PFAS testing for more than 800,000 private wells.  WSAW
  • Good News Project is hosting an electronics recycling event today to collect TVs, mini fridges, computers, and rechargeable batteries (a new initiative to prevent landfill fires) from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Wausau.  WSAW

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Community Blood Center issued a code red call for blood donations after a Mar. 14 to Mar. 16 blizzard canceled drives and 200 appointments, affecting many hospital patients. Eligible donors are urged to schedule appointments online or by phone to help replenish the blood supply.  Wausau Daily Herald
