  • Birnamwood native Reuben Kolpack, a World War II veteran, turned 104 and celebrated with over 16,000 birthday cards and a certificate from American Legion Post 341. He credited his busy family life for a lifetime of cherished memories and recalled a hospital visit when a general honored his service.  WSAW

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Wisconsin Supreme Court race is the most expensive and partisan contest in state history. Both sides are using national spending to try to boost turnout in the April 1 election—making this a unique political test for local voters.  Wausau Daily Herald
  • Today, Wausau and Marathon County are asking groups to submit ideas for new shelters for people who are homeless as part of a joint task force effort. The partners have set aside up to $400,000 over the next two years and need proposals by March 28—officials say the plans must offer different options that keep residents safe and support their recovery.  Wausau Daily Herald

HEALTH NEWS

  • In Wisconsin, experts say that eating healthy meals and foods low in saturated fat can lower the high rates of heart problems since 80% of these events are preventable. They suggest eating more beans, ground chicken, and whole grains—advice that also calls for less salt, smoking, and stress to keep hearts strong.  WSAW

  • Kirsten Simms scored the regulation tying goal and overtime winner to lead Wisconsin to a 4-3 victory over Ohio State in a rematch of last year’s championship, reclaiming the NCAA title. The win marks the Badgers’ fourth Frozen Four title since 2019.  WSAW
