COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Registration is open for Ghidorzi Green & Clean, an annual cleanup set for Saturday, April 25 in Wausau and surrounding communities. Volunteers will register and work from 9-11 a.m. to pick up trash at their designated sites. WSAW
- ➤ Spectrum and Marathon County’s Broadband Task Force are expanding fiber broadband to rural areas, having connected over 42,000 homes with 3,800 miles of fiber last year. They will continue to serve underserved spots in Hewitt, Texas, and Wausau, with contracts under way (covering 7,800 locations). WSAW
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Kwik Trip is expanding its Weston store at Business 51 + Neupert Avenue with larger coolers, kitchen, and restrooms as well as extra parking. The project is set to finish in mid-June. WSAW
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Wausau Mayor Doug Diny recognized public works crews for their tireless work during a record-setting snowstorm that struck March 14–16 — his Mayoral Citation praised plow crews, mechanics, supervisors, dispatchers, and fleet technicians for clearing roads and ensuring emergency access. WSAW
- ➤ Marathon County named Meagan Barnett as its first public health coordinator for homelessness response last week, and she will lead efforts to reassess and improve the system. Bridge Street Mission is set to take over long-term operations of the WMC Shelter, which will open in April. WAOW
- ➤ On Tuesday, the Riverside Fire Department ordered tenants of Budge Inn Motel to leave within 24 hours due to fire and life safety hazards, and officials said residents may return once repairs are complete. WSAW
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ ADRC staff from Aging & Disability Resource of Central Wisconsin will explain dementia basics at a free talk on aging and memory on Apr. 6 at the Wausau library, 300 N. First St. The session runs from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. and does not require registration. Wausau Daily Herald
REAL ESTATE NEWS
- ➤ Demolition is underway today at the former water treatment plant on 1801 N. River Drive + years of vandalism since its 2022 closure have led to this effort, which sets the stage for potential future redevelopment despite no detailed plans being announced. WSAW

- ➤ Today, the 65th annual NewsChannel 7 Basketball All-Stars teams were announced in Wausau as coaches from north central Wisconsin selected players into two squads for large (D1-D2) and small schools (D3-D5), naming standouts like Cade Felch, Brody Gilbertson, Marshfield’s Chri Pohl, Rhinelander’s Devon Feck and Sivan Dinga.
