COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Habitat for Humanity of Wausau will break ground on two new homes this week. The 74th home is on Jefferson Street and the 75th is on Plum Drive — projects that will provide safe, affordable housing for local families.  WSAW
  • On March 26th, 45 Jersey Mike’s Subs locations in Wisconsin donated 100% of their sales to Special Olympics Wisconsin to support year-round sports training and competitions for children and adults with cognitive disabilities (including the Wausau store at 225434 Rib Mountain Dr. and the Plover store at 176 Crossroads Dr.).  WSAW

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Bantr is renovating The Cabin in Rothschild to expand its pool and add features like swim-up bars and a concert venue to bring more visitors to north central Wisconsin—renovations are set to be completed by June 2026 and the hotel hosted its first country concert series this weekend with events at 7 p.m. and 11 p.m.  WSAW

CULTURE NEWS

  • Red barns mark the long history of our dairy farms; early farmers used a mix of rust, milk and lime + red lead paint because it was cheap and helped protect their barns. Many barns are still painted red today as a nod to that practical and affordable tradition.  Wausau Daily Herald

  • The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction race sees incumbent Jill Underly and education consultant Brittany Kinser competing for the leadership of 421 public school districts as voters will cast ballots on April 1—debates over vouchers, teacher shortages, and state test changes continue to shape the contest. Fundraising differences have also emerged as a key factor in the race—underscoring the high stakes of the upcoming election.  Wausau Daily Herald

  • Wausau-area voters will cast their ballots on April 1 from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. in contests for the Wisconsin Supreme Court, state superintendent, appeals court judge and school board seats—while also voting on a $40M referendum for Wausau Schools and a statewide amendment for voter ID.  Wausau Daily Herald
