COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ VFW Post 8342 gave a $500 check to Veterans Weekly Cup-of-Coffee Inc. on Mar. 25; the donation will support its Veterans Meal Program that supplies an average of 35 meals to veterans and their families every Wednesday by volunteer drivers from Denny's in Rothschild. Wausau Times
- ➤ Visit Wausau announced Jamie Rice‑Heckendorf as its new director of operations effective March 23 — she will oversee day-to-day tasks and financial processes to support community tourism, succeeding Jodi Maguire. Wausau Daily Herald
- ➤ The Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation held the 35th Wisconsin Main Street Awards at the Grand Theater in Wausau, recognizing downtown revitalization projects from 2025, including the popular Wausau Night Market that doubled its attendance. - ➤ The Wausau Hmong Community will celebrate 50 years in the US tomorrow at the central Wisconsin Convention and Expo Center (doors open 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. for a free program, with a ticketed event later). WAOW
- ➤ The Grand Theater will close on May 11 for a $17 million renovation that is part of its (Second Century Campaign) to modernize seating, acoustics, and historic spaces while improving comfort for both audiences and performers. WSAW
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Visit Wausau highlighted a $50K T-Mobile grant to the Children’s Imaginarium, which will launch a STEM Careers in Action Lab for K-5 students in Central Wisconsin. The lab will offer hands-on learning in manufacturing + health care, construction and engineering to serve 8,000 to 10,000 students a year. Wausau Times
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ UW System President Jay Rothman said he must resign or be fired, claiming he received no clear reason for losing the board’s confidence. The board is set to meet later this week (possibly Easter weekend) to decide his future. Wausau Daily Herald
- ➤ The Wisconsin DNR & WCC will host the annual Fish and Wildlife Spring Hearings on Monday, Apr. 13 from 6 to 9 p.m. across county locations, and the public can also provide input online until 6 p.m. on Apr. 15. Wausau Times
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ At Aspirus Cancer Care, doctors use immune checkpoint inhibitors to help T cells detect and fight cancers including lung, bladder, kidney, head, and neck, and triple negative breast cancers. Dr. Nicole Held said the treatment is combined with therapies (a strategy that may boost patient outcomes) while monitoring side effects. Wausau Times
