COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ FoodShare members who lost food due to power outages can request replacement benefits by contacting their agency online or by phone within 10 days of the loss. Members may need to provide documentation (e.g., utility or fire department records) unless a state of emergency has been declared. WSAW
- ➤ Ruby’s Pantry at New Hope Church in Wausau will end pantry events after its Minnesota headquarters directed a shutdown of pop-up sites, canceling the April 7 distribution and all future events; organizers thanked volunteers for eight years (since 2018). WSAW
- ➤ More than 14,700 people remain without power after an ice storm that earlier left over 60,000 customers affected, with Portage County experiencing the worst outages. Utility crews are working 16-hour shifts to repair broken poles and downed lines — a challenging task in harsh conditions. WSAW
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Wausau West High School hosted its second Hmong Culture Fest on Saturday — the event featured food, drink and apparel vendors as well as volleyball tournaments and brought community members together to celebrate local Hmong culture. WSAW
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Residents are invited to dispose of unused or expired medications on April 25 by visiting designated collection sites such as the Wausau Police Department + Oneida County Landfill. Items must be in original containers and drop-offs take only a few minutes. WSAW
