COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ FoodShare members who lost food due to power outages can request replacement benefits by contacting their agency online or by phone within 10 days of the loss. - ➤ Ruby’s Pantry at New Hope Church in Wausau will end pantry events after its Minnesota headquarters directed a shutdown of pop-up sites, canceling the April 7 distribution and all future events; organizers thanked volunteers for eight years (since 2018). WSAW
- ➤ More than 14,700 people remain without power after an ice storm that earlier left over 60,000 customers affected, with Portage County experiencing the worst outages. Utility crews are working 16-hour shifts to repair broken poles and downed lines — a challenging task in harsh conditions. WSAW
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Wausau West High School hosted its second Hmong Culture Fest on Saturday — the event featured food, drink and apparel vendors as well as volleyball tournaments and brought community members together to celebrate local Hmong culture. WSAW
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Residents are invited to dispose of unused or expired medications on April 25 by visiting designated collection sites such as the Wausau Police Department + Oneida County Landfill. Items must be in original containers and drop-offs take only a few minutes. WSAW
