EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Northcentral Technical College will host STEM Fest at its Wausau Campus on April 12 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. —attendees will enjoy hands-on experiments guided by Michigan Tech Mind Trekkers— and the free event is open to families. WSAW
- ➤ Area teachers and administrators were recognized by the Herb Kohl Foundation as outstanding educators for their leadership and commitment to students. A total of 114 winners received a Teacher Fellowship award of $6,000 each (with a matching $6,000 grant to their schools) to support educational excellence. WAOW
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Wisconsin Public Service said the first peregrine falcon egg of the season was laid at its nesting box at the Weston Power Plant. The falcon parents—Sheldon and an unbanded female—will now incubate the egg, which is expected to hatch in about one month. WAOW

- ➤ Monday night, the Parks and Recreation Committee approved a seasonal lease to replace Briq’s at Riverlife Park, pending city council approval tonight; the Sawmill Adventure Park operators—owners of the new stand—plan to serve ice cream, shakes, and pizza with a potential opening on June 1st. - ➤ After technology glitches affected last Tuesday's election in Kronenwetter, Marathon County Clerk Kim Trueblood is investigating unsealed ballot envelopes delivered to the courthouse that did not follow proper end-of-day procedures—raising concerns over election integrity. Clerks are reviewing procedures and scheduling a baseline training session this fall—ensuring that the correct process is followed in future votes. WAOW
- ➤ Today, residents near Athletic Park will see an increased police presence as Marathon County's multi-jurisdictional SWAT and Crisis Negotiation Teams train at 508 E. Wausau Ave from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The exercise uses tactical vehicles and explosive breaching on a garage set for demolition—officials stress there is no threat to the community. WSAW
