COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ The Women’s Community will host events in April to mark its 25-year milestone for Sexual Assault Awareness Month; activities include weekly Teal Tuesday, Karaoke for Consent on Apr. 10 at The Office in Schofield, and Bowling on Apr. 11 at Dale's Weston Lanes. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Grant Elementary was sold for $555,000 to Grant School, LLC on Monday, marking the completion of the school consolidation that also moved Hawthorn Hills and Hewitt-Texas Elementary. The district worked with local broker Tim Wimmer on each sale. WAOW
- ➤ On April 7, voters elected Yauo Y. Yang, Lance Trollop, Cory Sillars, and Charles Burger to the Wausau School Board and Yee Leng Xiong and Jennifer Douck to the D.C. Everest School Board — one extra seat in Wausau was for a one-year term following a resignation. Wausau Daily Herald
- ➤ Marathon high school student Will Tourtillott signed as an apprentice carpenter with Miron Construction on Tuesday, becoming the first registered high-school apprentice as part of a program to help bridge the talent gap in construction. He credited his mentors and family for supporting his success. WSAW
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Three peregrine falcon eggs were laid at the Weston WPS site as part of a statewide nesting program with ten eggs in total. The parents will rotate incubation, and the first chicks are expected later this month—residents can watch live nest box cameras and follow a new naming contest. WAOW
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Gov. Evers visited the Marathon County Solid Waste Facility to learn about efforts to treat PFAS contamination and support onsite chemical treatment; his visit came after signing bipartisan bills that free up more than ($125 million) for testing and remediation. WAOW
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Residents will get a free 15-minute memory screening on April 13 from 3-5 p.m. at the Marathon County Public Library (300 N. Third St.) with staff (from the Aging and Disability Resource Center) conducting screening sessions; registration by calling 715-261-7230 is required. Wausau Daily Herald
- ➤ A report from the University of Wisconsin Madison finds hospital service costs have risen nearly three times as fast as family incomes & that hospitals in Wisconsin charge the fourth-highest premiums for family health insurance. The study recommends better price transparency to help control rising costs. WAOW

- ➤ D.C. Everest’s girls soccer team ended its season debut in a 0-0 draw against Appleton West today. Junior keeper Binne Braunger + senior keeper Kayda Aeby both delivered strong performances to keep the nets shut. WSAW
