COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Packers Tailgate Tour will roll into Mosinee on April 11th to support Patriot K9s of Wisconsin— a nonprofit that gives free service dogs to veterans. The event, held at the CTI Sports Complex at 880 S View Drive, Suite 15132, will open at 5:00 p.m.— featuring Packers players and alumni and a Q&A with Mark Murphy while offering free food, drink tickets and a raffle to benefit the organization.  Wausau Times

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Central Wisconsin ginseng farmers in Marathon Co. are facing steep Chinese tariffs that jumped from 32.5% to 66.5% today and may force many out of business—Joe Heil of Heil Ginseng said rising supply costs add to challenges from past economic downturns and high tariffs in 2018. Local farmers now worry that these sudden increases will hurt their ability to compete in international markets.  WSAW

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Wisconsin lawmakers introduced Bradyn's Law for co-sponsorship in honor of Bradyn Bohn, who died by suicide last month after suffering from sextortion. The bill would impose new penalties—including felony murder charges for those who cause a death through sextortion—and make victims or their families eligible for compensation.  WAOW
  • Today the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and its conservation partners are inviting novice hunters aged 10 and up to apply for the Learn to Hunt Bear program, which offers classroom sessions and a field experience to teach bear biology, hunting techniques and safety. The DNR is also seeking experienced hunters with at least five years of bear hunting experience to serve as instructors, and interested volunteers should contact Emily Iehl by April 18.  Wausau Times

HEALTH NEWS

  • The American Red Cross is urging donors to give blood or platelets this April as a challenging winter and busy travel led to a low supply — local drives, including one in Wausau on April 16 at Thrive Church, offer prizes and incentives for donations.  Wausau Times
  • Aspirus Health provides specialized, trauma-informed care for sexual assault survivors through its SANE program—offering confidential medical exams, forensic evidence collection if requested, and advocacy—and supplies services at several locations including the Wausau facility.  Wausau Times
