- ➤ Volunteer Lara Pagel coordinates shuttles for hikers on the Ice Age Trail in the Portage/Waupaca chapter — her work keeps the route accessible amid storm damage while a trail community designation ceremony is scheduled for 10 a.m. May 9 at Iola Winter Sports Club. Wausau Times
- ➤ The community calendar lists a range of events from Easter bingo at Plautz’s Pub and a Kid’s Business Fair at Les & Jim’s Lincoln Lanes on Apr. 11 to a pet expo at the MARC on Apr. 25 and a spring raffle at the Eagles Club on Apr. 26 (with other activities scheduled throughout the week). - ➤ United Way of Marathon County will host a free disaster volunteer training session April 15, 6-8 p.m. at the Emergency Management office at 1000 Lake View Drive in Wausau & residents will practice volunteer management in a mock exercise with limited seating. Wausau Daily Herald
- ➤ Franck’s Gym donated $4,000 to the Man of Honor Society on Thursday from a raffle held during its Badger State Games event. Bryan Franck (the gym owner) said the donation supports local veterans who need help with essential expenses. WSAW

- ➤ The Marathon County Public Library is hosting a free Dungeons and Dragons social hour for adults on April 14 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at its Wausau headquarters (300 N. First St.), where experienced gamers and newcomers will exchange worldbuilding ideas. Wausau Times
- ➤ Eastbay founders Art Juedes and Rick Gering will sign copies of their new book on April 11 at Janke Book Store (505 N. Third St.) from 1 to 3 p.m. The book tells the story behind their iconic sports retail brand and proceeds will be donated to charity. Wausau Daily Herald

- ➤ New economic data from Wisconsin Public Radio shows outdoor recreation added over $12 billion to the state economy and supports 100,000 jobs including in Greater Wausau. Visit Wausau promotes the region as 'Wisconsin’s Basecamp' and said outdoor activities attract over 1.2 million visitors from nearby markets & boost local tourism. Wausau Times

- ➤ Rolly Lokre bought the former Grant Elementary School from the Wausau School District and will convert it into an early childhood center + host Head Start Preschool and Learning Grove ABA to serve local children. WSAW

- ➤ Wisconsin DNR advises locals to follow bear-aware steps as black bears become active this spring. Residents are urged to secure food, store pet food indoors, and remove attractants — actions that can reduce unwanted wildlife encounters near homes and campsites. Wausau Times

- ➤ Gov. Evers signed a new law on April 9 that allows Native American students to wear traditional tribal regalia at school events; tribal leaders & advocates say the measure clears up old rules that often left students uncertain. Wausau Daily Herald

- ➤ Aspirus Health will host the free Beyond the Game mental health summit for athletes on May 14 at Jefferson Street Inn in Wausau, featuring nationally recognized speakers & local experts to discuss emotional well-being during sports. Wausau Times
- ➤ The Highground will host a three-day retreat for female veterans at its Neillsville location from June 5 to 7 to offer free peer support for managing PTS and MST through workshops, healing circles, art projects and outdoor activities led by veteran nurse Sarah Blum (author of Warrior Nurse and Women Under Fire).
