- ➤ Families can try tennis for free at the 52nd Annual Children's Festival at Marathon Park on Saturday, May 9 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.; the Wisconsin District of the United States Tennis Association will host demos, magic shows, crafts, and a petting zoo, and the first 100 players receive free racquets (limited offer). - ➤ United Way of Marathon County is hosting a fundraiser now through June 17 to help struggling single moms secure financial stability and expand support programs for housing, childcare, and daily needs + the initiative targets moms at risk of crisis from one unexpected bill. WSAW
- ➤ On Mar. 29, Doug Wendt of Buska Retirement Solutions presented gift cards at the Veterans Weekly Cup-of-Coffee meeting at Denny's in Rothschild, where over 85 veterans meet weekly. The monthly event has supported veteran services since July 2024 by honoring local service members and providing free meal delivery. Wausau Times
- ➤ Local groups are hosting free prom dress and formal wear events this weekend in north central Wisconsin, where William's House of Hope & the Boys and Girls Club of Wausau offer outfits, shoes, and grooming services for teens to feel confident and ready for prom. WAOW
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers is under construction at the former Fazoli’s site in Rib Mountain + demolition was completed in late March. The chain will mark its first restaurant in central Wisconsin as its 8th location, though its opening date is not set. WSAW
- ➤ Bull Falls Brewing Company will debut its new Goat Bock beer at its first Bock Fest this weekend in Wausau + the event is expected to become the brewery's largest since Oktoberfest. WAOW
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Founders Art Juedes and Rick Gering present The Book of Eastbay, which details their journey from a local shoe idea to a national brand, at the Janke Book Store today from 1-3 p.m. Proceeds benefit Little Warriors (childhood cancer fund). WAOW
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ A free gardening workshop for beginners on soil, seeds and transplants will be held April 16 at the Wausau library in partnership with Extension Marathon County, with sessions offered from 1-3 p.m. and 5:30-7:30 p.m.- registration is required. Wausau Daily Herald
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ North Central Conservancy Trust received a $3,000 grant from Community Foundation of North Central Wisconsin to improve Big Cain Creek Preserve in Marathon County; the trust plans new signage, benches + a kiosk throughout 2026 to boost visitor access. Wausau Daily Herald
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ City officials are reviewing plans to update Metro Ride’s garage for electric buses, with a feasibility study decision due on Apr. 14. Metro Ride will add 10 new clean diesel buses this fall while preparing for future upgrades that include real-time passenger tracking. WSAW
REAL ESTATE NEWS
- ➤ Construction is underway at 405 S. 8th Ave on a former parking lot by the University of Wisconsin campus to build a six unit affordable housing complex set to finish this fall; the project will offer apartments with one, two and three bedrooms for residents with low or moderate incomes. WSAW
