- ➤ Seven events are planned this weekend in north central Wisconsin. In Stevens Point, UW 90 FM hosts its 55th trivia tournament that supports station upkeep and scholarships while the YMCA holds an Easter egg hunt with a wet twist — in Wausau, musical shows and an Easter bunny photo event bring family fun, and the Eagle River Figure Skating Club alongside Willow Springs Gardens offer a spring show and a puzzle and pizza contest. - ➤ Two local businessmen (Ryan Gallagher and Paul Grinsel) flew a banner reading 'Wausau Wisconsin Loves Red Lobster... Please??' over Red Lobster's headquarters to show support for the chain. They also organized a bus trip from Wausau to Green Bay for a meal last year (a move they shared on Facebook) to highlight their continued enthusiasm. WAOW
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A 21-year-old man pleading no contest to second-degree reckless homicide in the fatal Stevens Point beating was sentenced to 13 years in prison and 7 years of extended supervision — he received credit for 202 days in custody. WSAW
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Starting Monday, April 14, downtown Wausau will see a section of Washington Street from N 2nd to N 3rd closed to through traffic near Jimmy John’s as part of a construction phase that will reroute vehicles and limit on-street parking—city officials noted that the JC Penney parking ramp will remain open with free parking while improvements to roadways, sidewalks, and utilities continue. The project aims to revitalize the downtown area this fall and provide alternative access to local businesses and attractions. WSAW
- ➤ Friday audits found that state agencies and the University of Wisconsin system—large parts of state government—did not track how millions of dollars were spent on diversity, equity, and inclusion programs, making it hard to tell if the money was used correctly. The report estimated that the university system spent about $40 million on DEI offices and $12.5 million on salaries while a dozen agencies spent roughly $2.2 million on related jobs. WSAW
