COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Child Care of Wisconsin is set to launch a new program this summer that will lower costs for providers and families by using a reservation system for infant care slots in Lincoln, Langlade, and St. Croix counties. The program will provide extra revenue for covering costs—used to pay staff or reduce care expenses—and will expand to Oneida and Marathon counties at the end of 2026. WAOW
- ➤ Wausau West students have been working on a tiny home with a bed, bathroom and sitting area—now adding final touches—to help the homeless community. The tiny home will be shown at the Wausau Area Builders Association Home Show on April 26. WSAW
- ➤ More than 100 Vietnam-era veterans flew from central Wisconsin to Washington, D.C. on Monday as part of the season's first Never Forgotten Honor Flight—guardians accompanied the round trip from Central Wisconsin Airport with departures at 6:30 a.m., returns around 10 p.m., and public welcome starting at 8:30 p.m. WSAW

- ➤ A new Netflix documentary—The Fall of Favre—will debut May 20 and will examine Brett Favre’s controversies including his season with the New York Jets involving former sideline reporter Jenn Sterger and his role in a Mississippi welfare case he denies any wrongdoing about, and the film will not cast him in a positive light. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Wisconsin DNR warns that fire danger will be high this week due to dry weather, warmer temperatures, and yard waste burns after 63 wildfires burned 135 acres over the past weekend (burn permits remain suspended in 24 counties). Fire crews and two Army National Guard helicopter teams will be ready to respond if a large fire starts. WSAW

- ➤ Mark Scotch (a man from Plover) began biking from Los Angeles to Denver in early April to promote organ donation and meet the young girl who received part of his liver donation in early 2023. He will ride for 28 days (with scheduled off days) while raising kidney and liver health awareness. WSAW
