Central Wisconsin humane societies are preparing for kitten season by restocking supplies like specially formulated kitten food—after taking in 115 young cats last year—to manage the expected influx from May through September.

They urge community members to spay and neuter their pets and to call the shelters before bringing in stray kittens.

At the Wausau Chamber’s annual Business Expo on Thursday, In The Lite was named the 2025 Small Business of the Year and Habitat for Humanity was named the 2025 Non-Profit of the Year.
