- ➤ Residents in Wausau can join several activities this weekend, with UWSP hosting 9 to 5: The Musical on Friday and Saturday and the Grand Theater presenting Trampled by Turtles tonight. Kids can join an easter egg hunt at Greenheck Turner Community Center starting at 8 a.m.—a donation game night runs from 5 to 8 p.m. at Pinery Coffee Co. WSAW
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Kristi Hefty, front desk manager at Best Western Wittenberg Inn, said many rooms are still empty ahead of the NFL Draft. The hotel—located about an hour from Titletown—has cut breakfast staff hours as bookings remain slow and several hotels expect more guests next week. WSAW
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Pittsville High School sophomore Olivia Moore will represent Wisconsin at the summer Young People’s Continental Congress in Philadelphia with 26 other student delegates. Her teacher Kate Van Haren will join her on the July trip to support rural representation in this national event. WSAW
- ➤ Gov. Tony Evers used his partial veto to raise school funding by $325 per student until 2425, and the state Supreme Court upheld his move on Friday. Lawmakers and business groups criticized the decision for giving him broad power to change budget numbers while Evers said it secures funding for 400 years. WSAW
- ➤ State Superintendent Dr. Jill Underly said in a letter to the U.S. Department of Education Friday morning that Wisconsin schools already met federal law and would not sign the new Title VI certification request. The Department of Public Instruction warned the request could let Washington, D.C. control local schools (the agency confirmed its compliance in writing). WSAW
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ D.C. Everest girls soccer ended their five-game losing streak with a 4-0 shutout over River Falls on April 18, giving the Wildcats their first loss. WSAW
- ➤ On Friday, Wausau West hosted a triangular softball event where the Warriors lost 11-6 to New Richmond in the opening game — they later won 12-1 against Superior after New Richmond beat Superior 7-0 in an earlier match. The results show mixed outcomes for the home team. WSAW
