- ➤ After a Friday tornado damaged at least 75 homes, including the Krause family's home and RV used for their son's medical trips, a benefit — held Sunday at Arrow Sports Club — will support their rebuilding efforts in Ringle. WAOW
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ After a garage fire on Saturday at 7:15 p.m. at 1900 Ridgewood Court in Plover, a family of seven lost their unlivable home — all evacuated safely while local aid from the Red Cross and fundraisers is arriving. WSAW
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The University of Wisconsin Board of Regents extended its temporary test-optional policy for high school juniors who will apply starting Aug. 1 so that students graduating in spring 2027 can forgo submitting ACT or SAT scores. This change was approved at an April 20 meeting. Wausau Daily Herald
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ After the EF3 tornado on April 17 damaged or destroyed 75 homes in Ringle, residents continue cleanup efforts+work with local services to restore their community. Wausau Daily Herald
- ➤ The Wisconsin DNR urges residents to check fire danger and burn permit restrictions before burning storm debris as low humidity and windy conditions increase wildfire risk — proper disposal at local transfer stations or brush drop-off sites is recommended. WSAW
- ➤ On Earth Day, April 22, Good News Project will host an e-cycling event from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. at 1106 N. Fifth St. in Wausau where residents can recycle electronics for 49 cents per pound and batteries for $2.29 per pound to support local nonprofit programs. Wausau Daily Herald
- ➤ Local experts advise residents to watch for six invasive plant species—such as lesser celandine and Japanese stiltgrass—in natural or urban spots and to clean shoes and equipment to slow their spread. Residents can report sightings using a mapping app. Wausau Daily Herald

- ➤ Quinn Rice, a Wausau West senior, leads lacrosse growth in the area by mentoring younger players through a program known as Little Sisters at the Central Wisconsin Wolfpack (a team that brings together players from Wausau East, West, Mosinee, and D.C.
