COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ WZAW and W31EV have been restored after the March ice storm damaged their transmitters, and service is back for channels 33.1 — 33.5 and 34.10. Viewers are advised to rescan their TVs and use a proper antenna while the engineering team continues repairs. WSAW
- ➤ On Tuesday, officers from the Kronenwetter Police Department rescued a young muskrat that got its back legs trapped in a fence at a private home and released it near Bull Jr. Creek — the property owner had allowed them to cut the fence to free the animal. WSAW
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ A&W is set to take over the old Fuzzy's Tacos location in Weston. Jennifer Higgins—town zoning administrator—said at the Village Plan Commission Meeting last Monday that the zoning and building permits have been approved, the owner is buying the property, and a site plan review for a second drive-thru is underway, although no opening date has been set. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The village of Weston approved a zoning permit for an A&W Restaurant to move into the former Fuzzy’s Taco Shop building— the owner is purchasing the property and plans to add a second drive-thru. This new development follows Fuzzy’s Taco Shop closing in December 2024. WSAW
- ➤ Wausau police will operate an eight-month temporary homeless shelter at First United Methodist Church after Catholic Charities’ shelter shifts back to seasonal use on May 1. The shelter will hold between 50 and 60 people and needs nine to 11 helpers while community organizations help supply food & essentials. WSAW
- ➤ Village trustee Jim Pinsonneault resigned abruptly during the Weston board meeting Monday night at 6:01 p.m.—he stated that he could not continue on a board that makes decisions based on feelings rather than facts following his recent re-election. WSAW
- ➤ Today, the Wisconsin Senate passed a bill to extend Medicaid coverage for eligible postpartum mothers from 60 days to one year by a 32-1 vote (the lone nay was from Sen. Chris Kapenga) and the measure will go to an Assembly vote. WSAW
- ➤ Wausau Police Department held a meeting today with local faith leaders to discuss plans for opening a temporary homeless shelter at The First United Methodist Church on May 1—this facility will operate until December 31 as part of ongoing efforts to provide safe shelter options for those in need. WAOW
