COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Connexus Credit Union held an event on Thursday when more than 100 volunteers gathered at Dale's Weston Lanes to pack hygiene kits, pantry essentials and potty-training kits for The Neighbor's Place. The group spent $20,000 on supplies and prepared about 500 kits—supporting the organization with essential items for the coming week.  WAOW

CRIME NEWS

  • A 27-year-old Hatley man is back in jail as a judge raised his bond from $100,000 to $300,000 while he faces first-degree intentional homicide charges for the death of his 3-month-old son—authorities said the investigation began on Nov. 20, 2024 when officials responded to a call about an unresponsive baby who later died from blunt force head and neck trauma.  WSAW

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Grand Theater will host an open house Tuesday from 5—7 p.m. and a formal program at 6 p.m.—launching a $17 million Second Century campaign to upgrade the historic venue for the next 100 years.  WAOW
  • A Wausau West High School senior, Sadie Peissig, sparked a new art exhibit called 'Art in Flight' at Central Wisconsin Airport in Mosinee that opened on April 21 and will show work from students at Wausau West and Wausau East for a year — the exhibit brings local creativity to airport travelers.  Wausau Daily Herald
  • The Grand Theater has launched a $17 million Second Century Campaign to update its historic building—improving seating, lighting and backstage areas for better visitor safety. The public can learn more at a free open house on Tuesday, April 29 from 5 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. with a formal program at 6 p.m.  WSAW

  • Anglers in Wisconsin will have access to more than 15,000 lakes and miles of streams when the general fishing season opens Saturday, May 3. The Department of Natural Resources launched a new Fish Finder that provides licensing options and full fishing regulations online - available in English, Spanish, Hmong, and large print.  WAOW
