- ➤ Cycling Without Age Marathon County is asking for volunteers to pilot three-wheeled trishaws that give rides to older adults and people with disabilities during the summer riding season. Training will be offered Friday, May 2nd from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. + Saturday, May 3rd from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., with rides scheduled from Memorial Day to Labor Day across local routes. WSAW
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Crews answered a fire on the 800 block of Steuben Street on Monday, April 28 that injured one person with burns + investigators are testing the cause. WSAW
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Three people—Travis Ingram, Shelby Ingram, and Markqui White—are in Marathon County Jail on charges of selling drugs and money crimes after a year-long probe by the Central Wisconsin Drug Task Force, with nearly $80K in cocaine taken and a court decision due on May 5. WSAW
- ➤ A 42-year-old Amherst man remained in jail on a $1 million cash bond after a fight at his Mill Street home on March 16 resulted in his brother being shot in the leg above the knee and later flown to a Wausau hospital — he was scheduled to be charged Monday with six counts including attempted first-degree intentional homicide. WSAW
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Monday storms left over 10,000 people without power in central and northern Wisconsin. Wisconsin Public Service said crews are working to restore power statewide while urging residents to stay 25 feet from downed lines—Oneida County had 1,100 outages and Vilas County nearly 7,400—with additional outages in Marathon and Lincoln Counties. WSAW
- ➤ On April 28, the National Weather Service warned that three rounds of severe storms hit central Wisconsin — the early round brought pea-sized hail in Unity, the next produced winds up to 70 mph with possible tornadoes, and the final round ended by 2 a.m. Meteorologist Jason Alumbaugh urged residents to use multiple weather warning systems and have a plan as the hazardous weather unfolded. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Work will begin soon on improvements along I-39 south of Rib Mountain near Kronenwetter as crews repair guardrails, fix culverts, repave the road, and add gravel to the shoulders. Planned ramp closures on May 1 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and on May 2 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. — work is expected to finish by the first week of August. WSAW

- ➤ Students from local schools joined an ice bucket challenge to raise awareness for mental health and will host a walk/run with raffle baskets this weekend—supporting their efforts to end the stigma around mental illness. WSAW
