COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Melissa Teeple was named executive director of IRONBULL on April 30; the nonprofit holds endurance races that attract thousands to the area. She will oversee operations and build partnerships to grow local events. Wausau Daily Herald
- ➤ The Highground is hosting its 16th Annual Honor Ride and Memorial Day Ceremony on Monday, May 26 to honor fallen military heroes. Motorcyclists, veterans & families will ride scenic routes from many cities, join a parade in Neillsville, and mark a National Moment of Silence at 3pm. Wausau Times
- ➤ The Community Foundation of NW Wisconsin has raised $260,000 through 700 donations (including 20 from local businesses) to help rebuild Ringle after a tornado hit two weeks ago; support applications will be available this week. WAOW
- ➤ Rib Mountain Market launches today in Rib Mountain from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Village Municipal Center (227800 Snowbird Avenue) and features crafts, food trucks, and fresh produce every Friday until Sept. 25. WSAW
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Forest Service reported that some campgrounds in Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest will open on April 30 or today, while northern sites may open as late as May 14 (due to cool temperatures and lingering snow). The agency also announced reservation options at four campgrounds. WSAW
- ➤ Several recreation trails in Marathon County remain closed today due to persistent rain and late snow. Officials said closures, including parts of Burma Forest ATV and Nine Mile County Forest bike trails, will lift once conditions improve. Wausau Daily Herald
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Jeff Foster (a former social worker, dairy farmer and business leader from Colfax) announced his candidacy for State Senate District 23 to fill the seat vacated by Jesse James. He said his campaign centers on increasing education funding, lowering property taxes, revitalizing rural communities, and funding childcare. WSAW

- ➤ The Wausau Woodchucks announced their 2026 season schedule with special giveaways including a Wisconsin Lottery Rope Hat for the first 500 adult fans on May 28 and other promotions such as bobblehead and youth jersey giveaways throughout the season in the park & across local venues. WSAW
- ➤ On Wednesday, the Wausau West Warriors won a 7&5 softball game against Wisconsin Rapids while the Wild beat SPASH 9&8 in boys lacrosse, with both teams delivering exciting plays for local fans. WSAW
