- ➤ Students from D.C. Everest, Wausau and Marathon districts are organizing a charity run on May 3 at Stiehm Stadium in Weston (gates open at 9 a.m. and the race begins at 10 a.m.) to support tornado relief; proceeds will go to the Community Foundation of North Central Wisconsin's Emergency Relief Fund. - ➤ The Community Foundation updated its Marathon County Tornado Recovery fund webpage to show ways donors can give and for those impacted by the April 14 tornado to request funds through an online application (with nearly $260,000 raised for dumpsters, food, and tarps). BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Gray Media reached a new agreement to return WSAW/WZAW to DISH, making local news, weather and sports available immediately. DISH customers can now access CBS, FOX and CW shows, ensuring reliable programming for northcentral viewers. WSAW
- ➤ United Airlines has postponed its service from Mosinee to Chicago O’Hare until October 25 due to the FAA’s Summer 2026 capacity order — customers with bookings will be contacted for rebooking or refunds. WSAW
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Rideshare and delivery drivers in Wausau are working longer and paying more for gas as fuel prices climbed above $4 per gallon today (some drivers report nearly doubling their gas expenses). Many are using temporary relief programs from their companies to help offset rising costs. WSAW
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Wisconsin's fishing season opened today with new rules that allow musky fishing alongside walleye, northern pike and largemouth bass in over 15,000 lakes and 42,000 miles of waterways. - ➤ Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul announced that $80M from a $7.4B settlement with Purdue Pharma will support efforts to fight the opioid crisis, with 70% allocated to local governments and 30% to the Department of Health Services. WSAW
- ➤ Marathon County will honor fallen law enforcement officers at a memorial ceremony on May 15 at 10 a.m. at Bluegill Bay Park in Rib Mountain — attendees should bring a lawn chair as seating is limited. WAOW
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ In Ringle, tornado cleanup efforts continue as residents notice mold in water-damaged homes. Volunteers clean outdoors while experts advise the use of N-95 masks and air sampling (for mold) to maintain safe indoor air quality. WSAW

- ➤ The Rib Mountain Adventure Challenge returns on Saturday, May 23 in the Stevens Point/Plover area with over 300 racers signed up to paddle, bike, and trek the secret course; registration is open until May 19. Wausau Times
- ➤ Phillips softball defeated Newman Catholic 15-4, Marathon baseball beat Prentice 6-1, and Edgar lost to Athens 13-9 in extra innings Friday. Newman Catholic now has its eighth consecutive loss, making Phillips and Marathon the standout winners in the Marawood Conference games. WSAW
