- ➤ In Lac du Flambeau, community members held an Awareness Walk for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women to call for an end to the violence that has deeply affected local families. Tribal officials said red handprints were used as a symbol of remembrance—while they continue to seek details on the missing 37-year-old Melissa Beson. WSAW
- ➤ WSAW-TV was honored Saturday at a gala in Madison for excellence in broadcasting, receiving 39 awards (including Station of the Year for eight consecutive years and News Operation for the Year). From 1,493 entries by 125 stations, its wins highlighted the station's strong impact on local communities. WSAW
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Kenneth Manlick (the former Milladore treasurer) was charged with misconduct in office and theft after an audit found $63,000 missing over eight years; he appeared in Wood County court Monday morning and agreed to repay the funds, with his preliminary hearing scheduled for (May 14). WSAW
- ➤ A Marathon County couple, Travis and Shelby Ingram, were charged with cocaine trafficking — they learned on May 5 if their trial would go forward after police found drugs at their Mosinee home during a year-long probe by the Central Wisconsin Narcotics Task Force. WSAW

- ➤ Wausau student Aubrey Cronce from Wausau East High School won the 2025 Congressional Art Competition with her Midsummer Spark artwork and will have her display shown in the Cannon Tunnel of the U.S. Capitol for one year. Congressman Tom Tiffany announced the win — Southwest Airlines will provide her two round-trip tickets to attend the Winners’ Celebration in Washington, DC. WSAW

- ➤ Rep. Van Orden sent a letter to the House Agriculture Committee urging a change from a flat 25% SNAP cost shift to a model based on each state’s error rate — Wisconsin’s error rate was 4.74% in 2023. He also signed a resolution to protect Medicaid and SNAP benefits for the most vulnerable populations. WSAW
- ➤ The Village of Weston is improving Schofield Ave with a $2.6 million project that includes new signals, concrete pavement, curbs, and gutters while causing delays between Walgreens and Aldi. Crews will finish repaving the westbound lane by mid July and complete the work by Halloween—local businesses report longer commute times and mixed customer reactions. WSAW
