Federal funding cuts have hurt local nonprofits and United Way of Marathon County — which spent $1.6 million last year while receiving $4.4 million in funding requests for the next cycle.

The group is asking residents to donate and volunteer to help support over 45 programs for more than 45,000 people struggling with housing and childcare costs.
