- ➤ Today the second annual diaper drive begins with drop-off sites in Marathon and Portage counties organized by The Babies’ Place and United Way of Portage County to help families with the cost of larger diaper sizes. Drive-up events will be held at The Babies’ Place on May 21 and in Plover on May 29 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.—the drive ends May 30 and a $2500 grant will double money donations into 20,000 diapers. - ➤ A group of Wausau women will launch The Benefit Boutique pop-up sale at 745 Scott Street from May 16 to 18—offering affordable clothes and purses for $10 or less with a $25 admission fee while all proceeds benefit five local non-profits including The Neighbor’s Place, The Babies’ Place, CASA, Blessings in a Backpack and the Wausau Free Clinic. Organizers also invite community members to donate extra items such as diapers, hygiene supplies and art supplies, with unsold merchandise going to local organizations. WSAW
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Wausau police investigated the drowning death of a 16-year-old boy whose body was recovered Sunday evening from the Wisconsin River near the boat and kayak dock on North River Drive; rescue teams reached him at about 9:10 p.m. but he was later pronounced dead at a local hospital. WAOW
