- ➤ The Midnight Piper returns to the 400 Block downtown Wednesday night for a National Police Week tribute. The lone bagpiper will begin at 11:55 p.m. playing Amazing Grace (three verses) before walking away during the final note. WSAW
- ➤ From May 13 to May 27, the third annual NewsChannel 7 Diaper Drive is underway in Wausau, partnering with The Babies Place plus United Way of Portage County to collect diapers, wipes, and hygiene items at 20+ drop-off sites. Donations can also be mailed to the United Way office. WSAW
- ➤ Troop 419 Scouts partnered with Community Meals at First United Methodist Church today to prepare and serve meals for community members facing food insecurity; they also used fundraising proceeds & family donations to help offset food costs. Wausau Daily Herald
- ➤ City staff and residents joined Mayor Diny Tuesday for the annual Bike to Work event, riding a 2.5-mile route from Marathon Park along the River Trail to city hall — an effort to boost biking as a healthy commuting option during national bike month. WAOW

- ➤ WSAW NewsChannel 7 announced that Chief Meteorologist Mark Holley will move to the sales team as a Media Executive starting June 1 (after nearly 20 years serving viewers) while the station begins its search for his replacement. WSAW
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ UWSP Wausau campus, which has offered classes since 1902, held farewell events at the James F. Veninga Theatre on Tuesday as it prepares to merge with North Central Technical College (NTC); classes will end by month's end and Marathon County will decide whether to repurpose or sell the building. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Three peregrine falcon chicks hatched at the Weston Power Plant nest box on May 11 and overnight; a naming contest that drew 22,000 votes (inspired by local news anchors) marks the species' third nesting year at the plant. Wausau Daily Herald
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ The Wisconsin Department of Health Services said the Andes strain that caused 11 cruise ship illnesses is not found locally—only the Sin Nombre strain has been reported in six rare cases—so residents cleaning rodent areas should take safety precautions. WSAW

- ➤ Wausau West girls’ soccer team beat Wisconsin Rapids 1-0 on Tuesday as Maddy Weller scored the only goal in the first half, moving the Warriors to 4-0-1 and tying them for first in the Valley conference. WSAW
