  • Today on Grand Avenue, the American Legion + the city hung 50 banners honoring local veterans that families helped fund with about $10,000 for community projects; the banners will stay up until November 11.  WAOW

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Police recovered the body of 16-year-old Wausau East student Isreal Tambwe from the Wisconsin River on Sunday evening, a vigil was held near the Riverlife apartments to honor him—authorities reported no foul play and a fundraiser was set up for funeral costs.  WAOW

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Beekeepers in northcentral Wisconsin have seen their bee colonies shrink over the past year as Hansen Honey Farms reported winter survival dropping from 80% to 30% due to a mild winter and pesticide exposure — government funding cuts are now hindering research into these losses.  WSAW

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Merrill’s Corey Proulx was honored Tuesday night during National Police Week in Washington D.C.—his name was added to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial along with 345 fallen officers—and he died last summer after an attack at Lincoln Hills Youth Prison.  WSAW
  • Gov. Evers ordered the United States and state flags to fly at half-staff today from sunrise to sunset to honor Hmong-Lao Veterans Day, recognizing the service of Hmong-Lao veterans who fought in the Vietnam War—many of whom resettled in Wisconsin after facing persecution.  WSAW

  • Seven track and field teams competed at the Wausau City Meet at Wausau East on Tuesday, with both D.C. Everest boys’ and girls’ teams winning first place in team competition. The SPASH boys’ tennis team played on senior night and beat Eau Claire Memorial 5-2.  WSAW
