COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ The Landing in downtown Wausau celebrated its 12,000 sqft expansion with a ribbon-cutting ceremony Thursday afternoon; the senior center, serving those (55+), grew to over 5,500 members since 2019 and introduced several new activities. WSAW
- ➤ The Women’s Community hosted a forum Thursday night at the D.C. Everest Historic Mansion to ask for feedback on nearly 50 years of service in the area. State Rep. Pat Snyder attended to show support for the local organization. WSAW
- ➤ Prevail Bank will host a free e-cycling event on June 3 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at its Wausau branch (900 S. 17th Ave) where residents can drop off old electronics for secure disposal and data destruction. Wausau Daily Herald
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The Grand Theater got a $1.1 million state grant for renovations (Second Century Campaign) to update its HVAC, roof, seating, and accessibility. Construction began May 11 and will finish by the 2026/27 season. WAOW
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Children’s Imaginarium in Wausau will host a Kids Market event from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. tomorrow, where children will sell crafts and develop business skills. Admission is discounted to $5 for the event. Wausau Daily Herald
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Local residents are invited to a ceremony (honoring fallen officers) today at Bluegill Bay Park in Rib Mountain at 10 a.m. as part of National Police Week and Peace Officers Memorial Day (bring a lawn chair). WSAW
- ➤ Governor Evers announced a $5 million talent recruitment grant for 17 communities, with Wausau getting $500,000 to launch a pilot program for local workforce retention and attraction; local leaders met on May 5 at the Chamber’s 2036 Workforce Program to plan initiatives for Marathon County (details forthcoming). HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Aspirus Health hosted a free mental health summit for athletes at the Jefferson Street Inn in Wausau. Speakers including Dr. Chris Carr and former coach Jeff Olson explained how mental health influences sports performance and what steps can be taken for better support. WAOW
- ➤ MCPL Stratford will partner with the Aging and Disability Resource Center to offer a free dementia overview presentation for adults on May 18, 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at its Stratford branch (213201 Scholar St.). Wausau Times
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Marathon baseball and softball teams won close games over Edgar on Thursday with scores of 9-3 and 6-5; in the CWC-South, Wittenberg-Birn edged Iola-Scandinavia 12-10 to maintain a strong conference standing. WSAW
- ➤ On May 6, 2026, D.C Everest honored 12 student athletes advancing to college athletics, which raised the Class of 2026’s athlete total to over 20. They earned spots at colleges including Augustana, Dubuque, and UWEC. Wausau Times
