COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Marshfield Clinic donated $90,000 to United Way of Wisconsin to boost community health programs in central and northern Wisconsin. The funds will support programs addressing substance use, behavioral health and food security for local families. WAOW
- ➤ DC Everest fishing team hosted its annual Day at the Bay event (a fishing trip) for special needs students on Thursday at Bluegill Bay Park in Rib Mountain. About 70 people gathered to fish, ride a boat, and celebrate a 30-year tradition. WSAW
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Downtown Wausau's Grand Theater has begun a $17 million renovation project to update seating, improve accessibility, and replace aging systems. The work, part of the Second Century Project, will finish Nov. 7 ahead of the next season. Wausau Daily Herald
- ➤ Wausau Events announced the summer Concerts on the Square series on the 400 Block downtown starting Wednesday, June 3 at 6 p.m. The lineup includes The Now and Dig Deep, and an extra concert will be held at Kennedy Park in Weston on Tuesday, Aug. 18. WSAW
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Former teacher Dar Kadulski (40 years) and current District Superintendent Scott Foster have received lifetime passes from the Great Northern Conference for their pioneering service to Northland Pines. The passes grant them free entry to all regular season GNC events. WSAW
- ➤ Andrew Dewitt of Mid-State Technical College was honored on Apr. 23 with the J. Timothy Greene Risk Impact Award for leading campus upgrades that improved emergency procedures, secure access & video surveillance. Wausau Daily Herald
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Today, at Bluegill Bay in Rib Mountain, the Marathon County Sheriff's Office and community honored six fallen officers on Peace Officers Memorial Day by uniting law enforcement, families, and neighbors to recognize sacrifices and stress continued training and support (including Detective Jason Weiland, remembered by his wife). HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ The Marathon County Health Department has reported increased tick activity and advises residents to wear protective clothing and perform full-body checks after being outdoors. Public Health Vending Machines in Wausau now offer tick-removal kits (including tweezers and alcohol pads). Wausau Times
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ D.C. Everest senior Landon Gray signed on Friday with Eckerd College to play soccer in Florida. He spent a year playing with Juventus Juniors in Italy (an experience that helped shape his game) and will follow his father's footsteps by studying pre-law. WSAW
- ➤ Lakeland Thunderbirds clinched a 1-0 win over Wausau East Friday with a last-second goal by Carson Dyer — keeping their perfect season intact. They will play at Merrill Tuesday. WSAW
- ➤ The UWSP softball team was eliminated from the NCAA Tournament after a 1-0 loss to Bethany Lutheran on Friday as Emily Doyle drove in the only run in the third inning. WSAW
