  • Wausau area officers climbed rooftops Friday at Dunkin Donuts to collect donations for the Special Olympics—supporting the annual torch run that will be held on June 2.  WSAW

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • The National Weather Service confirmed on May 15 that an EF-2 tornado hit the Colby area in the evening, moving from fields west of Unity to the edge of Colby—damaging a home, farm outbuildings, trees, power poles, and a car dealership as winds reached 120 mph over a 4.5-mile course in 7 minutes.  WSAW

CRIME NEWS

  • The Lac du Flambeau Tribe is offering up to $25,000 for any information that leads to arresting the person behind the 1990 murder of Susan 'Susie' Poupart—authorities are testing new DNA on evidence and urge anyone with tips to call local law enforcement.  WSAW

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Severe storms caused widespread damage across Wisconsin, and Insurance Commissioner Nathan Houdek advised residents to list damaged items, take photographs before cleanup, and keep receipts for repairs — he also stressed that damaged property should not be discarded without a claim adjuster's consent. Gov. Tony Evers thanked responders and volunteers, and state agencies are ready to help with insurance claims and rebuilding efforts.  WAOW

  • Arianna Ostrum, a Wisconsin Rapids native and Port Edwards senior, won the Women’s Development Program Level 10 National Championship in Salt Lake City on May 11 by earning the highest scores including a perfect score on vault — her victory capped her high school career. She graduated from Port Edwards High School and has committed to the University of Minnesota — setting a milestone that inspires future gymnasts at Russell Gymnastics.  WSAW
