- ➤ Pat Schoenherr, WAOW's first female live reporter who joined when the station launched in 1965, passed away earlier this month at 96. Family, friends and former colleagues remember her warm spirit + lasting impact on community reporting. WAOW
- ➤ United Way and The Babies’ Place host the 3rd annual Pregnancy and Postpartum Resource Fair today at Community Partners Campus, 360 Grand Ave from 3:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. Attendees can receive a starter diaper pack, shop the Mobile Community Closet for baby clothes, and enter a raffle. WSAW
- ➤ The Community Foundation of North Central Wisconsin will mail $1,000 aid letters today in Ringle to help tornado victims as part of its emergency relief fund (which has raised $362,600) while reviewing 15 applications on May 21. WSAW
- ➤ Port Washington native Anastasia Poull was named the 79th Alice in Dairyland at a ceremony at the Hilton Garden Inn in Wausau & she will begin her role as the state’s full-time ag ambassador on July 6, traveling Wisconsin to share farm stories. Wausau Daily Herald
- ➤ Firefighters from 14 Wood County departments trained on liquid propane fire response on Monday in Pittsville at a session led by the Propane Education and Research Council. The practical training helped new and veteran responders work through scenarios common in rural areas (homes and farms). WSAW

- ➤ Farmers are cutting back on extra tractor passes as diesel prices near record highs amid global conflict, with Allied Cooperative & local suppliers advising careful timing to secure lower costs. They expect prices to drop once the Iran situation stabilizes. WAOW
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Ayasha Bowman of Wausau East (her second win) won Rep. Tiffany's 7th Congressional Art Competition; her piece 'Apostle Islands' will be shown at the Capitol and she will fly to Washington, D.C. in June. Sophia Garcia-Carranza also earned honorable mention for 'Wyalusing State Park'. WAOW
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Marathon County law enforcement is urging drivers to buckle up during the Click It or Ticket campaign (May 18-31), which coincides with Memorial Day travel. Officials say the effort aims to reduce injuries and save lives on local roads. Wausau Daily Herald
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Six high school teams competed on Monday at the Wisconsin Valley Conference Track and Field Meet held at Wausau East. SPASH led the girls with 198 points and D.C. Everest won on the boys’ side with 186 points. WSAW
