  • Mosinee veteran Daniel Stencil flew on the 52nd Never Forgotten Honor Flight Monday with his brother Howard and daughter as guardian while carrying photographs of his older brothers Kenneth and Clifford — who had died before they could fly — to honor their memory.  WSAW

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Wausau Mayor Doug Diny vetoed a land sale deal on Wyatt Street that would have sold the land for $1,000 because the city is tied up with more than $50,000 in costs—he argued that the deal undervalues the property. Council President Lisa Rasmussen said the council will consider an override of the veto on May 27.  WAOW
  • Wood County Parks & Forestry will open beaches at South Wood County, Nepco, North Park and Dexter County Park to the public on May 23 — they will remain open until Labor Day weekend and are unstaffed with dogs not allowed.  WSAW
  • The Department of Homeland Security revoked deportation protections for nearly 10,000 Afghan refugees nationwide and about 50 here a week ago after they helped during the Afghan War — New Beginnings for Refugees in Wausau said locals should act because returning these neighbors could put them at risk of persecution or death in Afghanistan.  WAOW

  • At Marathon High School on May 19th, 2025, 11 Marawood Conference schools gathered for the track meet. Stratford won the girls' title with 101 points — Marathon trailed with 98.33, while the boys' crown went to Marathon with 165 points to Stratford's 155.  WSAW
